A file server for your business, a home NAS, or perhaps your own virtualization environment? Whatever you're building, choosing the right chassis is a good place to start. After all, it determines which components will fit inside, how many drives you can install, and how you can organize cooling.
Lanberg is expanding its portfolio with two new 19” rackmount server chassis – 3U and 4U models. Each is designed with different requirements in mind, but both give you the freedom to build a system tailored to your specific needs.
3U - Compact Size, Plenty of Room for Storage
The first addition is the Lanberg SC01-4503-10B, a 3U chassis with a depth of 450 mm. It supports popular motherboard form factors, including ATX, Micro-ATX, and ITX, making it easy to choose components that suit your project.
One of its biggest advantages is the number of drive mounting positions. Depending on the configuration, it can accommodate up to 17 storage drives – eleven 3.5” drives and six 2.5” drives. This makes it a practical choice for building a NAS, file server, or video surveillance storage system.
The chassis comes with two pre-installed 120 mm PWM fans, with room for four additional 80 mm fans if needed. A removable dust filter also makes it easier to keep the interior clean.
4U - Built for Larger Components and Advanced Configurations
The second model, Lanberg SC01-6504-12B, is a 4U chassis with a depth of 650 mm. This version focuses on providing enough space for more demanding hardware configurations.
Alongside standard ATX motherboards, it supports larger form factors such as E-ATX, SSI CEB, and SSI EEB. There is also room for expansion cards up to 330 mm long and CPU coolers up to 155 mm tall.
The chassis can accommodate up to 15 HDDs and SSDs, making it suitable not only for traditional servers but also for workstations, virtualization environments, and systems requiring substantial data storage capacity.
Five 120 mm PWM fans come pre-installed. The chassis also supports two additional 80 mm fans and AIO liquid cooling, giving you flexibility when planning your cooling setup.
Small Details That Make a Difference
When choosing a server chassis, it's easy to focus on dimensions and drive bays. In practice, however, some of the most important features are the ones you appreciate during installation, maintenance, and everyday use.
Both Lanberg models feature PWM-controlled cooling, dust filters, and convenient access to essential controls. The front panel includes two USB 3.0 ports, Power and Reset buttons, and a system status LED.
Both chassis support ATX and SFX power supplies, while seven expansion slots provide room for additional network cards, storage controllers, and other components. The power supply is selected separately according to the requirements of your build.
Designed for Different Needs
There is no single server configuration that works for everyone. Some users prioritize storage capacity, while others need a powerful processor, additional expansion cards, or the flexibility to upgrade their system over time.
The 3U model is a solid starting point for compact servers with multiple drives, while the 4U version offers extra room for larger components and more advanced cooling solutions.
Whether you're putting together a home homelab, building a business NAS, or expanding your IT infrastructure, the new Lanberg server chassis give you the flexibility to create a setup that fits your requirements.
