A PoE extender (often referred to as a PoE repeater) is a practical device for installations where we need to run PoE-powered devices further than the standard length of a single cable section allows. Such a switch/PoE switch acts as an active splitter: it regenerates the signal and transmits PoE power further, allowing you to expand monitoring, Wi-Fi, or automation in your LAN without adding power supplies along the way — everything still goes through a single UTP cable.
The Lanberg series offers two DIN PoE extenders: both have 4 RJ45 ports in a 1× input port (PoE IN) + 3 output ports (PoE OUT) configuration, and differ in PoE class and bandwidth. This description applies to the DIN-GE4-BT-90W version — a model with Gigabit Ethernet ports (4× 1000BASE-T) and PoE++ (802.3bt) support with a total PoE budget of 85 W.
For comparison: the DIN-FE4-AT-30W variant is PoE+ (802.3at/802.3af) and Fast Ethernet 100 Mbps, with a PoE budget of 28 W.
Key features of the DIN-GE4-BT-90W:
In practice, the PoE extender solves a typical installation problem: surveillance cameras, access control, alarm components, or Wi-Fi access points are “too far” from the main PoE switch. The DIN-GE4-BT-90W allows you to extend the LAN and PoE power supply by another 100 m, maintaining communication and power supply on a single twisted pair cable.
In addition, with 1 Gb/s per port, the device is a great choice where not only power but also bandwidth is important — e.g., in installations with multiple video streams from IP cameras or when expanding network segments with higher traffic.

DIN-GE4-BT-90W can be used as a single extender, but in practice, you gain the most from linear expansion. In a cascade (serial) configuration, you can add more extenders, extending the effective range by another 100 m each time — up to +300 m with 3 cascade levels (relative to the nominal range of the PoE switch).
Importantly, at each stage, in addition to another extender, you can also connect additional PoE devices (e.g., 2 IP cameras and other peripherals), creating a convenient additional network branch along the way.

It is a compact, 4-port switch designed for stable operation in the field. It supports key Layer 2 standards and features:
• Automatic MDI/MDI-X — easier connections in the installation, without worrying about the type of cable.
• Flow control (IEEE 802.3x) — better traffic control and fewer problems with temporary overloads.
• MAC auto-learning + 2K MAC table — fast and stable switching in LAN segments.
In terms of power supply: DIN-GE4-BT-90W supports 802.3af / 802.3at / 802.3bt, i.e. standard, negotiated PoE (not passive PoE), with PoE++ type and a power budget of 85 W (max. 25 W per port according to specifications).
The device also features passive cooling and low power consumption (0.5 W), which is conducive to 24/7 operation in cabinets and switchboards.

In technical installations, speed of installation and order are important. Mounting on a DIN rail (TS-35) with a metal clip means that the extender sits securely in the switchboard, and you save time during expansion and servicing.
The main advantages of this mounting method include:
• Quick and easy installation (snap-on)
• Space saving
• Easy modification and maintenance
• Versatility and standardization
• Neat cabling
• Durability and safety
• Cost reduction
If you are expanding your network monitoring, Wi-Fi, or IP infrastructure and want to increase the range and capabilities of PoE without adding power sources along the way, the DIN-GE4-BT-90W is a solid choice. And if you need less power or Fast Ethernet is sufficient, there is also a PoE+ variant (DIN-FE4-AT-30W) in the series.
